Theresa Villar Announces Campaign for Racine County Circuit Court Judge

RACINE, WI — Attorney Theresa Villar has announced her candidacy for Racine County Circuit Court Judge, Branch 3, following Judge Maureen Martinez’s decision to step down from her seat on the court.

Villar has a broad legal background with particular focus in the areas of family law, guardianships, child welfare law, termination of parental rights, juvenile law, and criminal law. She is committed to being impartial and unbiased, acting with integrity, upholding the rule of law, and treating every individual with dignity and respect while holding them accountable for their actions.

The election to fill Judge Martinez’s seat will take place on April 2, 2024.

Career

Villar was a high school math teacher for 15 years before attending Marquette Law School (Class of 2010). As a lawyer, Villar has represented domestic abuse survivors in family cases and has advocated for the best interest of children as a guardian ad litem in family, child welfare, termination of parental rights and guardianship cases.

She has also spent the last six years working as an assistant district attorney in Racine County prosecuting child welfare cases, termination of parental rights cases, delinquency cases, and criminal cases.

Invested in Racine County

Villar has lived in Racine County 11 years with her husband and two children, both of whom attend Racine Unified schools. She was elected to a three-year term for Racine Unified School Board in April 2022.

Theresa Villar firmly believes acting with integrity is one of the most important aspects of serving as a judge. She is committed to being unbiased and impartial, and upholding the rule of law while providing equal access to justice for all.

She has made it her practice to treat individuals with dignity and respect, while holding people accountable for their actions, and will continue to do so from the bench.
